What drew you to jewelry design?
I was always fascinated with transforming art into something wearable and personal. The idea that jewelry can hold meaning, evoke emotions and tell a story was incredibly appealing to me. Jewelry is intimate, both in its size and proximity to the wearer, and I love that personal connection.

You grew up between the Netherlands and England, and studied in Florence. How has that influenced your design?
In the Netherlands, I was immersed in a culture that appreciates craftsmanship and innovation, and that’s something I carry into my work. England instilled a love for history and storytelling, which is evident in the narrative elements of my designs. Studying fine arts in Florence had a profound effect on me—the city’s artistic heritage, focus on sculpture and celebration of form and beauty still shape my approach.

How do you capture the essence of nature in your collections?
My goal is to bring nature’s essence into the details—whether it’s the iridescent beauty of scarab wings, the delicate curve of a leaf or the snap of an alligator’s jaw in a ring. Nature’s creativity is a source of inspiration, and I love incorporating those elements into designs that feel alive and dynamic.

Your pieces feature unexpected materials. How do you balance that with environmental responsibility?
Creativity and sustainability are core to my design philosophy. The mammoth tusk, for example, is an ancient, naturally-sourced material, and its use does not harm living creatures. Using such rare and sustainable materials gives them a second life, preserving history while transforming them into something beautiful. I also work with recycled gold and responsibly-sourced diamonds to reduce the environmental impact of my designs.

How do you define luxury in a world focused on conscious consumerism?
For me, true luxury is about craftsmanship, rarity and sustainability. It’s not just about the finest materials; it’s about the thought and care that goes into every aspect of the piece, from ethical sourcing to craftsmanship. It’s about creating something beautiful that respects both the planet and the people who make and wear it.
